On Sept. 13, 2013, the Labor Department hosted a Twitter chat focused on two new final rules to improve the hiring and employment of veterans and people with disabilities by federal contractors.
Representatives from the department – including Patricia Shiu, director of the department’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Policy; Kathy Martinez, assistant secretary of labor for disability employment policy; and Ruth Samardick, director of national programs for the Veterans’ Employment and Training Service – answered questions and shared resources.
Several outside guests also joined, including Jill Houghton, executive director of the U.S. Business Leadership Network; Mark Perriello, president and CEO of the American Association of People with Disabilities; and Davy Leghorn, assistant director of the American Legion’s Economic Division.
